We’re calling for Litter Heroes!
Our new year’s resolution couldn’t be easier and we can all join in. In support of Keep Britain Tidy we are calling for #LitterHeroes.
A #LitterHero is someone who is interested in actively volunteering their time to pick up
litter, reduce waste and improve the environment around them.
We love getting out into our countryside and sadly too often our beautiful green spaces are
spoilt with litter. This not only spoils your selfie in scenic spots but stunts plant growth,
harms and kills animals and pollutes rivers and streams. It also costs the council an obscene
amount of money which ultimately works its way back to our pockets. It is estimated that
within the UK it costs tax payers over £1 billion a year for cleaning up our streets, roads and
public spaces.
So lets start 2024 cleaning up our act… and get out and get picking!
We have 3 ways you can get involved.
Firstly, your safety is the most important so please only collect litter in places which are safe
to do so – such as our cross country footpaths away from busy roads.
1. Anyone who brings a bag of litter to the brewery, sorts and disposes in our recycling and
general waste bin will receive a #LitterHero discount. For your efforts, you will receive 10%
off a pint of beer or container of draft takeaway beer, on the same day you litter pick.
2. Many of you love to start your walks from the Taproom and return afterwards for a well-earned
pizza and a beverage or two. Now you can use our litter picking kits to take with you on your stroll. Our kits include bin bag, gloves, high vis and a grabber. Please return them the same day.
3. We are partnering with local walking guide Malinka aka Rural Strides, and will be hosting
the start and end points of new guided walks which have the additional bonus of helping to tidy up our countryside. It is the perfect chance to meet with like-minded people and start the New Year feeling good, doing our bit to support our countryside while enjoying fresh air and gentle excercise. Equipment will be provided. For more information and dates please see our Events Calendar.
Together we can all be #LitterHeroes reducing waste and the negative impact on our environment.

Additional Information
Our litter picking kits:
Gloves – protect your hands (might be wise to bring a bottle of antibac just in case)
Bags – we have lots of malt bags, which are ideal for collecting litter which can be used over and over again.
Litter picker – not essential but good to get into the brambles and hard to reach places.
Hi-vis – your safety is our main priority, so please do not put your safety at risk. You need to be
seen.
Clothing – weather appropriate clothing and footwear is essential.
Disposing of your litter and recycling
If possible, please separate the litter you find into three bags:
1. Plastic bottles.
2. Aluminium cans.
3. General waste.
On return to the brewery please speak to the team who will show you where to sort and dispose of the items collected.
Health And Safety
It is important that everyone understands how to keep themselves safe.
What to avoid and report-
• Potentially hazardous objects, for example unidentifiable cans or canisters, oil drums and oanything
with a hazardous sign.
• Sharp objects such as broken glass and disposable BBQs – these should be collected in separate
containers, not litter bags.
• Clinical waste such as needles/syringes
• Hazardous areas such as deep or fast-flowing water, steep, slippery or unstable banks, sharp rocks,
derelict buildings, busy roads.
• Heavy lifting – please consider your own strength and if it is too big or heavy to put in a bag leave it
and report it to the council. Make a note of the location and inform your local council and or environmental agency. W3W is a great way to pinpoint an exact location when an address is not clear.
Environmental Agency telephone – 0800 80 70 60.
Tell Your Friends
By getting involved you are joining the Great British Spring Clean, and one of hundreds of thousands of
#LitterHeroes on a collective mission to improve the environment. Hopefully more and more of us will join the mission and make changes to protect the environment on our doorstep.
As a small incentive from us, if you tag @langhambrewery and @KeepBritanTidy and us the hashtag
#LitterHeroes in your social media litter picking efforts (whether you choose to use our kits or not) we can offer you 10% off a takeaway beer on your next visit to the brewery.
Well done everyone, and enjoy!
