You’ll no doubt know that women were the world’s first beermakers. Whether creating mead, sake or beer, brewing started out as a feminine craft.
This week our brewhouse was blessed with the presence of Keri, who can normally be found pouring beers at our various events, as well as in our taproom. Brewster for a day, Keri happily brought her passion for home brewing, and her love of hops, to the occasion.
In a few weeks time you can taste the South Downs Best Bitter that she created this week – we can’t wait to showcase it.
The first known depiction of a person brewing is of a woman; an approximately 25,000-year-old cave carving that depicts a woman holding a drinking horn. Women’s inventions and ingenuity have shaped every era of alcohol and drinking culture and we look forward to sharing more brews from Keri in the very near future.
