The biggest ever thank you… for the biggest ever Bonkers For Conkers.

Sunday 10th October saw us host our 14th annual Bonkers For Conkers Championship here at the brewery; and it was a hugely successful day.

James and I would like to personally thank so many of you – you all made a huge difference to the success of the day – and without you the event simply wouldn’t have happened.

So, where to begin?

Thanks to all the valiant conkerers, all 75 of you who took part in the contest. This was a huge increase of players compared to previous years. We loved your competitiveness and sense of fun!
You, your families and friends helped us raise our biggest ever Bonkers total, somewhere in the region of £1000 (final total still being counted) for our chosen charity, Chestnut Tree House.

Huge congratulations to the winners:
Winner in the Senior Championship was Peter Hill, Lodsworthian; Ben Perfides was the valiant runner up.
The winner in the Junior Championship was Shane Morris. His brother Leon, was the runner up. It was a nail biting game!
Then… champion of champions Shane Morris played Peter Hill… and won!

Our thank yous continue.

Thanks for the entertainment. Thank you to Victory Morris for their excellent singing and dancing and to the fabulous Wavy Davy Band for their wonderful music… and for playing until the sun went down.

To the myriad of friends and family who joined in and helped: umpires Adrian Morris, Spike Leggatt and Ben Foulkes; conker distributor and string-rounder-upper Katie Foulkes; our amazing MC Dom Parris (who is also our number 1 Gulper); Phil Pleace and his lovely family who joined in to help; the excellent Nigel Turner who sailed over from IOW just to take part (better luck next year, Nigel); the cool, calm, delectable team on the registration desk, Caroline Douglas and Ellie Foulkes; the wonderful bar team Emma, Ali, Paula and Liz who did not take a breather from the second they arrived on site until the second they left. Special thanks go to our wonderful brewers Saulo ❤️ and Fran ❤️ for keeping the beer flowing and the conkers drilled ready for play.

Thank you to the coach load of beer connoisseurs from Arun and Adur, and to Debbie and Ray Pilkington – thank you for arranging the coach and for delaying your departure while Ruth Anne Smith continued to win.

To our stall holders Cocking Farm Shop who, as well as providing excellent food, also donated £120 to the charity total; Noble & Stace for the delicious chocolates and fabulous raffle prize which raised £171; the most excellent steam engine drivers who, while keeping both children and adults entertained, raised £71; and the fabulous fundraisers from Chestnut Tree House who, as well as offering a great game of quoits plus a tombola, shared their knowledge of the support and care the charity offers.

Thank you to all the people who visited the brewery on Sunday; thank you for coming along, joining in the fun and being part of what we do.

And finally we’d like to thank the weather! What a beautiful autumnal day to enjoy a community event such as this.

Sincere, heartfelt thanks for everything – Lesley xx
