Bonkers For Conkers
Bonkers? Yes… For Conkers!
We are reaching out to all serious sports men, women, families, children (and their dogs) to be part of our annual daredevil contest of skill and danger: Bonkers For Conkers.
Join the event at the beautiful ‘brewery in a barn’ on the Cowdray Estate, on Sunday 10th October. 1pm – 6.30pm.
Lesley co-owner of the brewery says, “We’re thrilled to be bringing this annual event to the local community. It’s always lots of fun and well-supported, with fantastic food, wonderful friendly people and of course, tasty award-winning ales”.
There will be 2 competitions to find the junior (8 to 15 years) and senior conker champions of 2021.
World championship rules apply… and all conkers are provided by the organisers. This is serious (& very fun) stuff!

There will also be (of course!) an excellent bar with our award winning ales available, as well as mini steam engine rides, fabulous stalls (including Noble and Stace – more details below), plus gifts, a tombola, face painting, cake decorating and more.
Traditional, local fare will be provided by the fabulous family run Manor Farm. Manor Farm is one of the few remaining traditional family-run mixed livestock and arable farms in the UK and is located around the village of Cocking, in the heart of the South Downs National Park. The menu will include an Oxford Black and Sandy Hog Roast, delectable homemade vegetarian quiche and delicious seasonal apple cake. This promises to be hearty, wholesome traditional fare, to work beautifully with the traditional game of Conkers!
Live music comes from the wonderful Wavy Davy Band, with a group of Sea Shanty singers, as well as entertainment from the fabulous Victory Morris Dancers.
It’s free to come along to the event, but please give generously, as the brewery will be collecting for Chestnut Tree House Hospice Care Sussex.
So… who will win the coveted Langham Cup or get their name on the treasured junior trophy shield? Good luck (and be Bonkers For Conkers) one and all!
Award-winning chocolatiers, Noble and Stace will be raffling a big bag of milk chocolate truffle ‘conkers’ at their stall, with all proceeds to Chestnut Tree House.
At their Artisan Bakehouse near Steyning, Noble and Stace offer bespoke chocolate making master classes. Their next class is on Wednesday 6th October, where Mike Noble, owner and head chocolatier, will teach you how to make ganache fillings, pipe, dip and decorate truffles, temper chocolate to create your own bespoke bars and hand roll truffles.
